Have you ever been in an MRI machine? Well, if you have, the person who operates that machine is a radiologist.
Estrella R., a sophomore at Triton College, is going to be a radiologist. To be one you have to be very smart and knowledgable about the human body and much more. She is on her way to being a radiologist, and the MMS Newsroom wants to know more about her future job.
What job are you going for and why?
I’m trying to be a radiation therapist, but I am required to have some previous knowledge of equipment and how radiation works. I’m required to take some license exams, which is why I am going to radiology school as my first step to a professional career in radiation therapy.
What made you go for radiology? What do you like about it?
In one of my classes, we learned about different types of cancers and treatments that require radiation, which is what made me interested. But it was actually a family friend who is a radiation therapist that recommended the job to me. The thing I like about radiology is it’s something in the medical field that uses multiple types of equipment and different positioning, and it’s just something that helps a lot of people.
As a kid, what was your dream job and why?
As a kid my dream job was to become an artist. As a kid, I liked to draw and paint and do artsy crafts whenever I had the opportunity.
As you said before, radiology is in a field that could help a lot of people. So, what made you want to help people?
I want to help people because in my family there have been some family members who have had cancer. It’s hard to watch, which is why I want to invest my life to help others.
From Ms. Smith: To coincide with the launch of Mannheim Middle School’s PaCE framework, the MMS Newsroom presents a series of college- and career-focused interviews by MMS students. What is PaCE? PaCE guidelines help students to develop a growth mindset, recognize their strengths, build confidence, and plan for college and careers.
